Sand Replenishment Group AGM
The 10th annual general meeting is set for Sunday, August 25, 2019, 2.30 pm at the Club Old Bar. Members and prospective members are very welcome and can perhaps contribute “think power” and any ideas which might help us move forward with protection of our beach and replenishment of the sand. The Old Bar Beach Sand Replenishment Group was inaugurated January 2009, so it has been working ten years for our community to save our beautiful beach and protect community property.
Speaking to the meeting will be our two MidCoast Council Coastal specialists, Andrew Staniland and Dr. Thomas Doyle who are very approachable and having regular meetings with us, keeping us up to date with the many instructions they get from the state government with regard to this Coastal Management Program (CMP) . The present plan since 2015 is a practical coastal engineering solution by world leading coastal engineer Angus Jackson’s four stage plan now sitting with MidCoast Council pending completion of the “Old Bar Manning Point (CMP)” which council is working to have completed by the end of 2020.
Most locals would be aware that some success was enjoyed in 2018 with sand scraping at a cost of $90,000, the outcome of a visit with then Minister for the Environment, Rob Stokes in 2017. This is protection for which the group is grateful and is hopeful this will now be included in yearly maintenance of the beach. Our community needs to be vocal about the very distressing state of Farquhar Inlet – once a local water sport highlight. Now there is much being said about being able to walk from Mudbishops across the built up sand to Farquhar Park and questions being asked about the solutions.
Contact Elaine Pearce, President on 0407 229-145 for any enquiries.
