COLD WINDY AND HAZARDOUS SURF AND ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES HEADED OUR WAY

Severe Weather Warning
for DAMAGING SURF and ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES
For people in parts of Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan and Illawarra Forecast Districts.

Issued at 10:22 am Thursday, 31 May 2018.
LARGE AND POWERFUL SURF DEVELOPING ALONG CENTRAL PARTS OF THE COAST

A low pressure system over the Tasman Sea is deepening in response to a cold front. This low is generating vigorous southerly winds with large and powerful waves.
VERY HEAVY SURF is likely to cause localised damage and coastal erosion for some exposed, south-facing zones along parts of the coast, between Taree and Ulladulla, from late Thursday evening.
Beach conditions in these areas could be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas.
ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES may cause sea water flooding of low lying areas along central parts of the coast on Friday night. Water levels could exceed the highest tide of the year by 0.5 metres.
Locations which may be affected include Newcastle, Gosford, Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra and Ulladulla.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Don’t drive, ride or walk through flood water.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Thursday.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau’s website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 218. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
